FILE INFO
CaptionOn the occasion of the Rajasuya sacrifice, Krishna, the chief of the Yadavas, was given the highest honor. Maharaja Yudisthira joyfully worshiped Lord Krishna with love and bathed His feet. Seeing Lord Krishna thus honored, all those present exclaimed, "Obeisances to You! All victory to You!" and they bowed down to Him. Shishupala, however, who was also present there, was an avowed enemy of Krishna; and he became infuriated hearing the glorification of His transcendental qualities. He stood up from his seat and began to speak insults against the Lord. The Supreme Lord Krishna said nothing, but some of the members of the assembly covered their ears and walked out. Some of the devotees of the Lord rose up with their weapons poised, ready to kill Shishupala. Shishupala also took up his sword and shield and then directed his insults at those who sided with Krishna. At that point Lord Krishna stood up. In order to protect the Rajasuya sacrifice of His beloved devotee Yudisthira, and avoid a savage fight, the Lord immediately sent forth His razor-sharp disc and severed Shishupala's head from his body.
