FILE INFO | Caption | In the last eighteen years of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's presence on this earth, described in the Antya-lila of Chaitanya-caritamrita, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu drifted deeper and deeper into trances of spiritual ecstasy. Chapter 19, verses 31-34 relate the following: "As His feelings of separation in the ecstasy of Srimati Radharani increased at every moment, the Lord's activities, both day and night, were now wild, insane performances. Suddenly there awoke within Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu the scene of Lord Krishna's departure to Mathura, and He began exhibiting the symptom of ecstatic madness known as udghurna. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu spoke like a madman, holding Ramananda Raya by the neck, and He questioned Svarupa Damodara, thinking him to be His gopi friend. Just as Srimati Radharani inquired from Her personal friend Vishaka, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, reading that very verse, began speaking like a madman."
