FILE INFO | Caption | Shishupala was extremely envious of Lord Krishna. From the very beginning of his childhood, up until his death, he was blaspheming the Lord. At the ceremony known as Rajasuya, performed by King Yudhisthira, everyone agreed to worship Krishna. However this was intolerable to Shishupala. He began to blaspheme Krishna in the open assembly, and Krishna severed Shishupala's head from his body with His sudarshana chakra (spinning weapon shaped like a wheel). Because Sishupala and his brother were actually personal associates of Lord Vishnu and had come to this world to assist the Lord in His pastimes, when Shishupala was killed he merged into the body of Lord Krishna. He remained merged for some time and then he returned to Vaikuntha, the abode of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. | Headline | The Deliverance of Shishupala | Copyright Notice | © Copyright The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International, Inc.
